Biography
Musa Mandella, a dedicated and dynamic hip-hop artist hailing from the west side of Chicago, Illinois, has been shaping the contours of his musical landscape for over twenty years. Born and raised amidst the challenging terrains of Holy City in North Lawndale and The Kedvale Square, affectionately known as “Da Bricks,” Mandella’s upbringing in these neighborhoods, notorious for their struggles with gangs, drugs, and violence, has significantly influenced his music and worldview. His artistic expression is a vivid portrayal of these streets, weaving a narrative of endurance, hope, and the stark realities of urban life.
Mandella’s musical journey began at the tender age of 13, signaling the birth of a passion that would withstand the tests of time and adversity. His early years in the music industry were marked by his participation in the group “Brick Boys,” under the moniker “Shiesty.” However, his path took a dramatic turn following a federal indictment for drug conspiracy in 2006, leading to a 12-year imprisonment. This period of incarceration, though challenging, did not dampen his spirits. Instead, it served as a crucible for refining his artistry. Mandella’s resilience in the face of adversity is a testament to the human spirit’s capacity to find strength in struggle.
